Aims and likely Cross Border benefits of the project:This project will produce a detailed area based marketing plan that will identify a long term sustainable marketing strategy to attract tourist anglers to the brown trout rivers in Tyrone & Donegal (tourist anglers defined as those who spend at least one night in the region) and a plan that recommends any necessary product development work and training required to enhance the angling package for these anglers eg. Holiday Packages, access provision, stream work, accommodation / refreshment provision and angling guides.

Project Objectives:

  • Produce a marketing plan, centred around angling tourism, that is credible and actionable & on time. Highlight product development work that is critical and recommend who should do this and who should be approached to fund it, where necessary
  • Potential for immediate and future employment to be established
  • Audit ancillary services in the two areas and identify any gaps
  • Liaise with tourist depts. In Omagh & Letterkenny to comply with statutory insurance/bond requirements and to ensure that all angling marketing efforts dovetail.
  • Recommend a training programme for angling guides.
  • Include provision for approved disabled angling facilities
  • Cost the marketing plan and the product enhancement work
  • Develop an advertising thematic to underpin the communication plan
  • Consider options for a PR launch of the “theme”
  • Develop a set of fishing packages and a clear pricing strategy for tourists and for local anglers (ie within a defined radius of Convoy or Drumquin)
  • Recommend what next actions & additional sites should now be considered
  • Identify how best to manage tourist angler enquiries and fishery management , bailiff duties and local license sales.
