Aims and Likely Cross Border Benefits:

The project will employ someone to act as a Co-ordinator/Research officer for the community aspect of commemorating the Flight of the Earls. It has been proposed that CWSAN will provide a member of staff to do this job as they have a member of staff who is currently working part-time. This individual will be responsible for liasing with the respective stakeholders eg. Historical/heritage groups based in Co Tyrone and Co Donegal, the local District Councils and other interested parties. Consultation workshops will be held. The results of this consultation will be illustrated on relevant web sites. A final report will be produced which will charter the interest which exists within the community as regards becoming actively involved in commemorating this historical event. An action plan will be devised to facilitate 2 cross-border projects that will commemorate the Flight of the Earls.

Project beneficiaries will be those involved within historical/heritage-based groups in Co Donegal and Co Tyrone.

Project Objectives:

  • Increase community/group participatory levels.
  • Build community capacity.
  • To act as a coordinating, umbrella based initiative where all community based activities within the geographical boundaries of the proposed project relating to the commemorating of the 400th Anniversary of the Flight of the Earls are recorded in website and report format.
